Watching a loved one battle addiction can be a hopeless feeling when you are not sure how to handle the situation. Individuals with an alcohol or drug addiction often are not aware of or will not admit to their problem. If you have tried speaking to your loved one about their addiction to no avail, it may be time to consider an intervention. Our experienced team at the Haven can help family members set up an intervention and provide effective treatment options.

There are a few key things people can do before entering rehab that can best prepare them for the experience. For starters, avoid binging on drugs or alcohol before, as it will only make detox significantly more difficult. Practice good nutrition and health before entering rehab. This means getting adequate rest, eating complete meals, and staying hydrated. The more you do improve your health before rehab, the easier the recovery process will be. Lastly, make sure to stay positive and spend as much time with loved ones as you can.

Patients entering rehab at The Haven should bring enough comfortable clothing for 5-7 days. A washing machine and dryer are available at our facility to keep clothes fresh. You can also bring reading material regarding self-help, spirituality, health, or a 12-step program. If you are a smoker, you can bring unopened packs of cigarettes as well.

People entering rehabilitation at The Haven should avoid bringing electronic cigarettes also known as vapes. Do not bring outside linens/bedding, pillows, or stuffed animals as we will provide everything you need for comfort. Lastly, do not bring any products containing alcohol or drugs.

Patients should bring a list of all their medications that includes dosages as well as a list of any known allergies to medications. Our team of medical professionals has access to a complete pharmacy and can prescribe and manage all of your medication during your stay.

It is highly advised that individuals experiencing substance abuse do not attempt to detox on their own as it is incredibly dangerous. Withdrawal from alcohol and drugs can cause painful symptoms that can even be fatal. Detoxification in a supervised environment ensures the patient’s safety in the case of a medical emergency. Never attempt the detox process on your own without medical supervision.

After rehab is complete, patients typically continue taking prescription drugs to cope with withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Our medical team will also connect patients with effective aftercare services that include treatment programs to prevent relapse. Support groups are an incredible way for patients to develop healthy friendships and ensure a long-term recovery.

The Haven Detox takes a big-picture approach to your addiction or alcoholism treatment. We focus on how lifestyle, environment, physical health, and co-occurring mental health disorders play a part in drug and alcohol abuse. We prepare you for a full life in recovery using research-based addiction therapy, individualized treatment plans, and aftercare planning. Our drug and alcohol addiction treatment center doesn’t just fixate on the problem – we empower you to focus on your future.
