FIRST RESPONDER-FOCUSED CARE
What is The Haven Detox First Responders Program?
The Haven Detox First Responders Program provides addiction and mental health treatment for active and retired first responders, including firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and corrections officers.
We understand that first responder work comes with pressures most people never see. Here, you’ll find support from people who understand the demands of your job, including dedicated trauma therapists and first responder support groups.
Our First Responder Program works alongside residential treatment and our other levels of care, providing additional support for first responders struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, mental health concerns, or trauma. Depending on your needs, treatment may include individual therapy, trauma-focused group sessions, EMDR, and other evidence-based approaches to help you build healthier habits and work toward real recovery.
Treatment is tailored for first responders facing:
- Alcohol or drug use
- PTSD and trauma-related symptoms
- Depression, anxiety, and chronic stress
- Burnout, anger, and emotional numbness
- Co-occurring disorders
- Insomnia, nightmares, and trouble relaxing
Your care is based on what you need, whether that means support for addiction, mental health, or both. You do not have to wait until things get worse to ask for help.

Instead of being overwhelmed with groups all day, the facility focuses on fewer, more impactful sessions. I particularly appreciated the trauma track, featuring EMDR sessions led by a fantastic facilitator who really understands the process.

This is my first time in a detox residential treatment center and I can honestly say it was nothing short of epic. I’ve learned that is in giving that we receive the most and from what you’ve given me I will never cease to give back to others to help them attain sobriety in the way that you have taught and have given it to me.

Questions about rehab for first responders
What types of first responders can join the program?
The program is available to active and retired first responders, including firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and other eligible emergency service professionals. If you’re not sure whether the program is the right fit for your role or needs, give us a call and we can connect you with the right level of care.
Is first responder treatment confidential?
Yes. Haven provides confidential behavioral health treatment. If you have questions about your department, employer, insurance, licensing, or medical leave, our admissions team can explain how privacy applies to your situation before you begin treatment.
Can I get treatment if I am still working?
Yes. Many first responders seek treatment while they are still working but know that drinking, drug use, trauma, stress, sleep, or mental health symptoms are getting harder to manage.
Can first responders get treatment for PTSD and addiction at the same time?
Yes. If trauma, PTSD, alcohol use, or drug use are happening together, your treatment plan can address them together. Care may include trauma-focused therapy, addiction treatment, medication management, dedicated first responder groups, and other support based on what you need.
What if trauma is affecting me but I do not have PTSD?
You can still get help. Trauma does not always mean PTSD, and you do not need a diagnosis before reaching out. If you are dealing with poor sleep, anxiety, anger, stress, feeling on edge, emotional numbness, or memories that are hard to shake, treatment can help you work through what is affecting you now.
Can you help me with FMLA or medical leave for treatment?
Yes. The Haven Detox can help with applicable FMLA and medical-leave paperwork related to treatment. Your exact eligibility and employment protections depend on your individual job and circumstances, but our team can help you understand the process and what paperwork may be needed.
